Composite Resources News
Originally developed for military use, the C-A-Tourniquet® has radically changed the way healthcare workers regard tourniquets. In the early stages of the war in Iraq, tourniquet use was discouraged on the battlefield. It was used only in “life or limb” circumstances. When a tourniquet was needed, soldiers were expected to use their belts along with a stick to help stop hemorrhaging. Sticks were often hard to find in the desert. An ex-soldier, who wanted to help prevent the needless loss of life, came to Composite Resources with an idea to create a better tourniquet. Little did he know that within a few short years, thousands of lives would be saved, military policy would be changed and the U.S. Army would recognize the C-A-T® as “One of the Best Inventions of 2005″. Since then allied military organizations around the globe have adopted the C-A-T® and every American soldier is issued one before combat.
While the military knows the C-A-T® as the Combat Application Tourniquet, non-military personnel know the C-A-T® as the Critical Application Tourniquet. The most commonly used tourniquet of its kind in the world, it is now being used by EMS, Paramedics, Firefighters, Police and Emergency Room personnel around the world. It has been proven 100% effective in stopping blood flow from extremity trauma. Not only has it saved lives but if surgical repair can be completed in a reasonable window of time, limbs can be saved.
