Airline Seat Project

Airline Seat Project

Challenge -  With fuel prices rising, commercial airlines are trying to find ways to reduce the weight of their aircraft to offset rising fuel costs but not sacrifice strength or safety.  A producer of airline seats told Composite Resources about their idea for a new airline seat.

Solution -  The solution was to utilize composite materials to create structural parts for airline seats.  The right composite materials weigh only two-thirds the weight of traditional materials, yet offer improved strength and durability.

Results – When applied to every seat in a commercial aircraft, composite components dramatically reduce weight, and therefore save fuel without sacrificing strength or durability.  This allows the airline industry to minimize fare increases due to increasing fuel costs because their aircraft are now more fuel-efficient.
